The most-asked question we get in the studio isn't about color. It's "how am I supposed to hang this?"
Fair. A 6 or 8-foot strand is heavier than it looks, and most hosts don't want to put a nail through a wall they don't own — or any wall, really. Below: three tested ways to hang, in order of "fewest tools and trust me it works."
1. 3M Command hooks (our default)
Yes, really. The medium Outdoor Window hooks rated for 2 lbs each are what we hand to every rental client. Two hooks at the ends of the strand, one in the middle for anything 8 feet or longer. They remove clean — no residue when you pull the tab.
Heads up: stick them to clean, dry, primed wall surface and let them set for one hour before hanging weight. Textured walls, fresh paint (under 30 days), and wallpaper are all uncertain — test in a corner first.
2. Picture-rail hooks (the elegant option)
If your wall already has picture-rail molding — or you want to install it once and use it for everything from streamers to seasonal wreaths — picture-rail hooks are the move. We sell a mounting kit for $12 that includes two brass hooks, the right twine, and an install card.
The hooks slip over the rail; the twine ties to the strand's cotton spine. Reusable every time you swap the decoration.
3. Tied to existing hardware
Some hosts skip mounting entirely:
- Tie the strand to a curtain rod on either side of a window. Lets the strand swag.
- Run it across the back of a bookshelf, pinning the spine behind a few books.
- Knot it to the legs of a chandelier for a ceiling-install moment.
- Loop the spine around the legs of a sweetheart-table runner — it falls naturally down the front.
Streamers are textile, not ornament. They want to drape, not stretch. Hang them with that in mind — never tight enough to pull the spine straight.
The take-down
Always remove the strand within 7 days of an outdoor event — silk and organza shouldn't stay in direct sun for weeks. Indoor strands can live a full season. Roll them gently around a paper towel tube for storage, never fold.
